How to Access Your Self Storage Unit

Congratulations! You have booked a self storage unit....so what happens now?

After you have made an online booking with Smartbox Self Storage UK:

1. you will receive a confirmation email to let you know that a unit has been reserved for your chosen move in date.

2. You will be asked to finish set up of your account,

3. and complete our online check-in. 

The email will also contain directions to the Smartbox Self Storage facility if you need them.

WHAT DO I NEED TO COMPLETE ONLINE CHECK-IN?

You will be asked to provide and upload

a) a form of identification,

b) proof of address

c) and a copy of your contents insurance documents (if you are not taking property protection StoreProtect with us).

You will also be asked to read and sign a monthly contract.

HOW DO I GET ACCESS TO MY UNIT?

With Smartbox Self Storage UK facilities you can enter the site using the main gate all day, seven days a week.

In your welcome email you will receive details of how to access the main gate, the electronic gate access system will have been updated with the mobile phone number you provided when booking with us.

You will only be able to open the gates using this mobile phone number. 

The storage units are clearly labelled with the unit number.

At our sites with outdoor container storage, you will be able to drive right up to your self storage unit. In our indoor storage sites, there are loading bays and roller shutter doors with lifts and trolley’s to load and unload easily from you car.

We’ve designed both our indoor and outdoor storage unit sites to be as easy and hassle-free as possible.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GET TO MY OUTDOOR STORAGE UNIT?

When you find your outdoor storage unit.

1. The door will be locked using a combination lock. In your email you will receive your unique combination number to release the lock and gain entry to the unit.

2. Inside your unit, located just inside the door, will be your heavy-duty padlock and a pair of keys. 

3. To secure your unit take advantage of the high security anti-theft lock box placed centrally where the doors meet.

4. Place your heavy-duty padlock under this lock box so that it cannot be easily seen or accessed.

WILL I BE THE ONLY ONE WITH ACCESS TO MY UNIT?

Yes, you will have sole access to your unit. Should you wish to share entry to your unit with a family member, friend, or a removal company, you will need to give them your unique key. Remember, we will not be able to issue additional keys so be very careful when loaning them to anyone.

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY LOCKS WHEN I HAND MY UNIT BACK?

Please leave the padlock and two keys inside the unit in the same place you found them when first entering the unit. Place the combination lock on the outside of the unit to secure it closed. Email the office to confirm you have done this and the date and time.

We endeavour to ensure that when you first take your unit you will find it clean and tidy. We would ask that you ensure you have removed all your belongings and hand it back as you found it.

HOW DO I CONTACT THE MANAGEMENT TEAM?

Office hours are Monday to Friday 0830 to 1530 but you can call our out of hours manager Max who will transfer you to our emergency contact team if there is an issue on site.
